Background of the Study

In recent years, toxic feminist narratives have gained prominence in global discourse, particularly within social media and professional spaces. These radical feminist ideologies, often focusing on the rejection of traditional gender roles and promoting the idea of female independence, have raised concerns about their potential impact on marital stability, fidelity, and family structures. In Nigeria, where marriage and family hold significant cultural importance, the growing influence of these narratives could have profound implications on marital infidelity and the rise of single motherhood.

Abuja, Nigeria’s political capital, is home to many legal practitioners who are at the forefront of professional and social change, including the debates surrounding gender equality and family structures. This study seeks to explore how toxic feminist narratives, as discussed and influenced by Abuja-based legal practitioners, impact marital relationships. Specifically, the research will examine whether these ideologies contribute to an increase in marital infidelity and the subsequent rise in single motherhood in Nigerian urban contexts.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing acceptance of feminist ideologies in Nigerian society, the impact of toxic feminism on marital fidelity and single motherhood remains an underexplored area of research. This study aims to address this gap by investigating how toxic feminist rhetoric, particularly among legal practitioners in Abuja, influences attitudes towards marriage, infidelity, and family structures. The findings will help to better understand the role of feminist discourse in shaping modern Nigerian relationships.

Objectives of the Study

To examine the influence of toxic feminist narratives on perceptions of marital fidelity among Abuja-based legal practitioners.

To explore the relationship between these feminist ideologies and the rising trend of single motherhood in Abuja.

To assess the impact of toxic feminist rhetoric on marital relationships, infidelity, and family stability in Nigerian legal circles.

Research Questions

How do toxic feminist narratives, as discussed by Abuja-based legal practitioners, influence perceptions of marital fidelity?

What is the relationship between these feminist ideologies and the increase in single motherhood in Abuja?

How does toxic feminist discourse affect marital stability and the prevalence of infidelity in Abuja-based legal practices?

Significance of the Study

This study will provide important insights into how feminist ideologies, particularly those seen as toxic, influence marital relationships and family structures within Nigerian professional environments. By focusing on Abuja-based legal practitioners, the research will contribute to the ongoing discourse on the social consequences of feminist rhetoric on family life. The findings will help policymakers, family counselors, and legal professionals address the challenges posed by toxic feminist narratives in marriage and family stability.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus exclusively on Abuja-based legal practitioners and their professional and personal views on toxic feminism. It will assess the impact of these ideologies on marital fidelity and single motherhood in urban Nigerian families but will not address broader issues affecting the general public or those outside of the legal profession. The study will be limited to individuals actively engaged with feminist discourse.
